Illumina Finishes Delirium-Related Courses for Hospital Elder Life Program
The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is a comprehensive evidence-based patient-care program targeted to prevent delirium and functional decline for hospitalized older patients, implemented in over 200 medical facilities. Illumina’s collaboration with HELP began in May 2015, and Illumina has completed a set of eleven new on-line courses for HELP, undertaken with a 24-month grant from the John A. Hartford Foundation. The courses cover many different topics; selections include an introduction to delirium, overview of HELP, guidance on interventions for Elder Life Nursing Specialists, volunteer recruitment and training, patient screening and enrollment, and more. In addition to developing complete courses, Illumina also designed templates to facilitate HELP staff creating additional courses themselves, and provided training to enable the initial HELP course creation efforts. Illumina also assisted HELP with setting up a new learning management system to give medical facility staff access to HELP’s courses.
