Illumina Develops E-learning Modules to Reduce Delirium for Patients in Hospital Settings
The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is a comprehensive evidence-based patient-care program targeted to prevent delirium and functional decline for hospitalized older patients. Today HELP is being implemented in approximately 200 medical facilities. HELP, with funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation, hired Illumina to assist them with creating a series of e-learning courses on different topics which would serve both current and new HELP sites. As one example, a course for Elder Life Specialists instructs the ELS on daily orientation activities, early mobilization, feeding assistance, therapeutic activities, a non-pharmacologic sleep protocol, and hearing/vision adaptations all of which are designed to prevent delirium. HELP and Illumina plan to develop and roll out the course series through early 2017.
